Ivan has 6 times as many blue beads as red beads. He has 49 red and blue beads in all. How many blue beads does Ivan have?

we know that
x + y = 49
x = 49 − y -------> equation 1
x = 6 y ------> equation 2
equate equation 1 and equation 2
49 − y = 6 y 6 y + y = 49 7 y = 49 y = 7 49 ​ y = 7
find the value of x
x = 6 ∗ 7 x = 42
