A cube-shaped box has a volume of 27 cubic centimeters. What is the length of one side of the box? How would you figure this out?

Recall the formula for volume of a cube; Length * Height * Width = Volume. Well in a cube, all sides are the same value. So L = H = W. So any variable can be used as all three measurements. So x * x * x = 27 cubic cm. We can simplify this into x^3 =27. Cube-root each side to end up with x = 3 cm. Length, Height and Width are all 3 cm.

The length of one side of the cube-shaped box is 3 centimeters, found by taking the cube root of the volume. Since the volume is 27 cubic centimeters, we calculated s = 3 27 = 3 cm . Thus, each side of the cube has a length of 3 cm.
