For every 13 birds born at the zoo, there are two animals born. Last month, there were 44 more animals born than birds. How many animals were born?

last month: animals = birds - 44 birds - animals = 44 use trial and improvement to find: if there were 52 birds, there must be 8 animals CHECK: 52 - 8 = 44

There were 52 animals born at the zoo last month. This was calculated using the ratio of birds to animals and the information that there were 44 more animals than birds. By setting up equations based on these relationships, we determined the number of animals produced during this time.
